Compare wedding insurance before you choose!

Wedding insuranceWith the average cost of a wedding around £20,000  in the UK, walking down the aisle could be a huge money investment for a couple. No one likes the idea that a wedding could possibly be a disaster but it's better to be protected. What if the wedding rings get lost few hours before the ceremony or that one of your close relative got injured?  Or a last minute cancellation from a wedding supplier or if the officiating minister or register failed to show up? It's not really romantic to subscribe a wedding insurance, but if ever something should go wrong, you 'll be happy to have spent a small amount on this issue.

Most of people don't even know about wedding insurance or think about it while planning one of the most expensive day of their life. Here is a quick guide to help you consider whether you need it or not.

What exactly is a wedding insurance?

The wedding insurance is set to protect your big day and avoid financial losses if something was to ruin your perfect day. This could give your couple a peace of mind while planning your Big Day. Depending on the amount you spend on your wedding day, you can cover full the expenses. With a wedding insurance, you could get your money back or get some help to rearrange your wedding if the unthinkable should happen.

Wedding insurance does not only cover materials, but you can also claim your insurance provider, if the bride or the groom get ill. In this case, they would help for rearrangement if the wedding has been postponed.

What can couples expect from their wedding insurance?

Usually, wedding insurances cover the most important parts of the wedding day, such as:

- The bride's dressCouple-contract
- other ceremonial attire
- photography and video
- wedding cake
- accommodation
- flowers
- wedding car and transport
- wedding venue
- wedding presents...

Insurance providers usually ask you to disclose all material facts included in the wedding planning. If the unforeseen situation occur such as loss, damage, vandalism (...), they would pay up to the amount determined on the contract or a certain percentage of your expenses to rearrange your plans.

Most insurance policies cover these basic aspects of the wedding such as damage of goods, supplier failure, replacement of wedding presents, cake, transport.. However be aware that very few of them will cover the cost if the couple decide to end their relationship or because of the weather.

When to apply for your wedding insurance?

There is no perfect moment to apply for your wedding insurance, but we would advise you to buy the insurance before you make the first deposit to a wedding supplier to be sure, the money will be covered in case you have a bad experience. Usually you can purchase your wedding insurance up to two years before the special day and fourteen days before the date of the wedding.

How much does a wedding insurance cost?

Just like the home insurance, the wedding insurance depends on the overall cost of the ceremony. There are different levels of cover to suit engaged couple's budget. Premium cost range from  as little as £ 30 for an event of £5.000 and can go up to £300.

According to your wedding expenses, make sure you look well at what each policy covers or not. Insurance policies can vary a lot and you might look carefully to select the best one for your investment.

Where to buy a wedding insurance?

Some department stores including Debenhams, Marcks & Spencer, John Lewis offer to insure your wedding. Many insurance providers also have policies to protect your special day. Almost all major insurers allow the policies to be purchased online. You can easily get quotes and buy online.
