Summer/spring 2013 french fashion week. It is the 2nd year Raf Simons is Dior's artistic director. And what a collection that was ! It wooed the stars of the Cannes film festival who seemed to wear dresses from this very collection. Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard went all for it… But the designer of Dior Couture did not only design beautiful dresses, he designed some extraordinary accessories. One of those accessories being a virginal hat with flowers and veil ! Such an unexpected detail which is bound to inspire a lot of wedding clothes designers. Raf Simons's hat reminds us of our grand-mothers swimming caps. But, far from looking costumey or kitsch, Dior's genius designer is making those hats look sharp, chic fun and invents an accessory a lot of brides would love to wear !
A new take on the wedding hat
Sweet or severe, chic or mother of the bride, the wedding hat divides opinions, even if some of you absolutely love it ! This vintage looking helmet is renewing the take on bridal hats in an original innovative way. It's enhancing the cuteness of the short hair bride, and is best worn by women with a heart shaped or oval face. It is also a risky move as it could make one look like an easter egg. Wearing this hat can be complicated and dangerous, and is probably best left to the care of the most audacious and edgy brides. Some wedding designers such as Yolan Cris have been up to the challenge and used this veiled hat in their 2014's wedding collection. Looking at the pictures below, it is clear that this was a risk worth taking !
Following Raf Simons' instinct and flair, the flower designer Laure Lépine created a Vespa helmet decorated with freshly cut flowers. This creative and ambitious take on the "hat" has been a real hit at the parisian Wedding fair this year. Such an exciting trend !
